10 Devotional Questions about Your Evangelism

Self-reflection with devotional questions around the theme of personal evangelism is a good habit to cultivate.

This kind of self-reflection allows us to look upon our feelings, actions, and thoughts around the frequency of faith sharing conversations.

It allows us to see holes in our evangelism habits. We might discover a personal growth step to improve our ability to communicate the gospel.

It might be the Lord might draw our attention to the next person we should invite to church.

Self-reflection is good for our personal growth, but do not allow your inner critic to demoralize you.

How you can practice self-reflection around personal evangelism

1. Write in a Journal

I have found that journaling helps me grow comfortable in talking about my faith when I write my observations or conversations and reflect on them.

It’s a good practice to follow, and will help you in the future.  It has been a practice that has been deeply beneficial in my life, particularly in removing fear from my practice of personal evangelism.

2. Ask Questions

Asking questions is crucial for self-reflection. Without questions, there are no answers.  The questions below give you a great start. Each one can be followed up with questions like:

  • When?
  • What happened?
  • What could I do different?
  • What skill can I improve to do better next time?
  • What can I do in the coming week to make more time for conversations?

Ten devotional questions about personal evangelism

  1. When was the last time you had a conversation about faith with someone who wasn’t a Christian?
  2. What was the last book on evangelism that you read?
  3. When was the last time you preached (or heard) a series on evangelism?
  4. When was the last time you took the initiative to greet a first time visitor, and took the time to converse with them, beyond the handshake?
  5. How would you answer the question from a non-Christian: “Why do you believe in Jesus?”
  6. When was the last time you prayed for your neighbor to know Christ like you know him?
  7. How many friends do you “do life with” that do not know Jesus?
  8. How many Bible studies or church events do you go to that keep you too busy to be with non-churched people?
  9. What gospel scripts have you learned and are ready to use at a moment’s notice?
  10. Who are the new believers in your church that you can help coach in evangelism?

When done with intentionality, self-reflection about your habits of personal evangelism will reveal things you enjoy and things to improve.
