The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: 2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; 3 Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. 4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away. 5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. 10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. 11 To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. 12 By Silvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I suppose, I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand. 13 The church that is at Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you; and so doth Marcus my son. 14 Greet ye one another with a kiss of charity. Peace be with you all that are in Christ Jesus. Amen.

angela h = "Peter is urging the elders into action. He identifies himself with them as if to say "If I'm not too old to be active in the church, then you can be active as well."Peter is well aged when he writes this letter in A.D. 65, more than 30 years after the Resurrection of Jesus."
Sara Di Diego = "Peter was present at the garden (where Jesus was betrayed and kissed by Judas), at the high-priest's palace (where Jesus was judged), and at the crucifiction (somewhere in the crowd).Work Cited: http://www.biblestudytools.com/commentaries/matthew-henry-complete/1-peter/5.html"
angela h = "He calling them out to teach and disciple the congregation just as Jesus called Peter to do many years earlier. See John 21:15-17.He tells them they should do it gladly in service to Jesus, not out of guilt or for pay. "
angela h = "Peter tells them not to be taskmasters/slave-drivers, but to lead out by example, as a parent. This is similar to Ephesians 6:4 where Paul tells fathers to not frustrate their children, but to bring them up in the love and admonition of the Lord. God is our ultimate example of how we should treat people we have authority over.Shepherds not only lead but also seek after the welfare of the flock."
angela h = "Our service to the Lord is not always rewarded here in this lifetime. Peter assures them they will be compensated far beyond their imaginations when the Lord returns. See Revelation 22:12."
angela h = "It only makes sense that the elders should be wiser. So the younger should submit to the older and learn from them. We see a picture here of young people who don't heed the advice of their elders as proud. The generation in which we are living now is much this way. Be certain God does not like this. We should respect our elders. See Leviticus 19:32."
angela h = "We should seek the will of God in all we do. If we are in His will we will not fail. See Proverbs 3:5-6."

angela h = "I absolutely love this verse. We are called to give all (not some) of our cares to the Lord. Casting paints a picture of throwing them (our cares) away from ourselves and onto Someone (Jesus)  better suited to handle them. After which we should no longer be carrying our burdens. Jesus is!Why?..because He cares for us! Wow! Have you ever though about just how much Jesus loves you? He cares about everything you care about. Not just your soul, but everything."
Sarah Mangum = "Read all the "Holy Hotlines""
Sarah Mangum = "1 Peter 5:7"
angela h = "This is another important one to remember. Watch out! Watch out! The devil is looking for a way to destroy you.He don't need much room to do his work. He only needs you to flirt with sin just a little. He will take care of the rest. Before you know it you are engulfed by it."
Sarah R = "We should never make the mistake of thinking that the devil does not exist. The Bible is clear that he is real and active on Earth, working against God and God´s people. In the Bible he is referred to as the tempter (1 Thessalonians 3:5), the evil one (Matthew 13:19), the father of lies and a murderer (John 8:44), and the deceiver (Revelation 12:9)."
angela h = "The steadfast in the faith are those who are drawing nigh to God. see James 4:7-8. If we focus on God and His will we wont be as inclined to sin.Everybody has afflictions, trials, and temptations. But when we are counting on The Almighty God to get us through them, we will fare much better than when we try to do it on our own."
Sarah R = "Peter states we can resist the devil by standing firm in the faith. Parallel verse:James 4:7 ¨Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.¨"
Cary W = "When we accept Jesus as Lord, we not only inherit His Spirit and Kingdom, but while here, we also complete the sufferings of Christ, unto all things be brought unto submission of His will and glory. We must praise Him while tested, being fully convinced His grace is sufficient and victory assured."
angela h = "Tried by fire. God is refining us as silver or gold. Trials and afflictions are ridding us of our impurities so that we are fit for the Kingdom to come. "
angela h = "To God all honor and power. Let it be so."
angela h = "Peter is closing his letter. He is mentioning other workers and churches. This is a great example to the Christian church as a whole. Many times we think only our home church will be in heaven or only our denomination, but the early church were all working together for the cause of Christ. Collectively we are the church. All of us, from Peter, up to the last convert."
Sara Di Diego = "One of the main reasons this phrase is included in Peter's letter, is because Silvanus was an uncircumcised Gentile.  Peter immediately knew that the congregation would not trust an uncircumcised minister, thus he prematurely reassured them that he was "a faithful brother unto you".Work Cited:http://www.biblestudytools.com/commentaries/matthew-henry-complete/1-peter/5.html"
Sara Di Diego = "Some scholars believe that this Silvanus might be the same Silas/Silvanus found in Acts and other books in the New Testament.  Silas was captured with Paul during their captivity in Rome, and was beaten with his mentor. There is even a prayer dedicated to Silas, the martyr: "Almighty and everlasting God, we thank thee for thy servant Silas, whom thou didst call to preach the Gospel to the peoples of Turkey, Greece, and Macedonia. Raise up, we beseech thee, in this and every land evengelists and heralds of thy kingdom, that thy Church may proclaim the unsearchable riches of our Savior Jesus Christ; who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever."Work Cited:http://justus.anglican.org/resources/bio/200.htmlhttp://www.iconograms.org/images/igimages/I0219000730S0147AA_silas_silvanos.jpg"
