But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. 2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. 3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. 4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. 5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. 7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. 8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. 9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him. 11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do. 12 And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; 13 And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves. 14 Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men. 15 See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men. 16 Rejoice evermore. 17 Pray without ceasing. 18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. 19 Quench not the Spirit. 20 Despise not prophesyings. 21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. 22 Abstain from all appearance of evil. 23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it. 25 Brethren, pray for us. 26 Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss. 27 I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren. 28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.

angela h = "The "but" here tells us we need to back up to the previous chapter where Paul is telling us about the Rapture of the church. Not to scare us but to encourage us and reassure us that we will be reunited with our saved loved ones who have died.  He is simply stating that he can't tell us when it will happen, just that he knows it will happen.  See Matthew 24:36."
angela h = "This is the same scene Jesus describes in Matthew 24:38. He says people will be basically going about with their everyday lives and then suddenly Jesus will split the Eastern sky wide open. Lost folks will be left to face the Great Tribulation while dead believers will rise from the grave and live believers will be caught up to meet with them and Jesus in the air. We are told that our bodies will be instantly changed into bodies fashioned after the likeness of Christ. (Our sinful bodies cannot go to heaven so we need new ones that won't be prone to sin).See I Corinthians 15:35-58 and 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18."
angela h = "The saved need not worry. The Rapture will be a glorious event for us. "
angela h = "Here Paul is telling us to work and wait at the same time. While we are secure in our eternity and look forward to the Rapture, we must not forget that we are called to bring as many as we can to the Lord. See Matthew 28:19-20"
angela h = "The sleepers and drunken are the lost. Lost people will not be watching for the Rapture. The night refers to the darkness of their lives without Jesus. They are still in bondage to their sin."
Deena E = "The breastplate of faith and love...Paul writes another letter to the Ephesians about the full armor of God. He refers to the breastplate of righteousness. I believe that behaving with loving motives causes one to be in right-standing with God."
Cary W = "This verse, I believe, is crucial for the current rush to interpret end time scriptures. Here, James encourages to not even seek more teaching on the coming of the Lord, which will come like a theif, but rather to be sober by putting on the breastplate of love and faith and a helmet of hope and salvation. Setting our minds, not on prophecy, but hope and our promised salvation from wrath and setting our hearts on encouraging faith and ever expanding love."
angela h = "Paul is going over what he said in verses 13-18 of the last chapter. Apparently some believers were distraught over the death of loved ones and needed some reassuring that they would meet again and be with Jesus together. He again says to comfort each other with this truth. "
Cary W = "When Jesus overcame death, it was a real literal, universally accomplished feat, for it is our worst dread....the separation from all of our loved ones.  But in Christ, we now live together, both the living the dead, and as we believe in this message we can both comfort and be comforted, even knowing the fellowship of all the saints, even as John 1 exclaims."
Cary W = "Because we are so easily riled to doubt or tempted to be disheartened, it is imperative that we continually comfort, admonish and edify the spirit within those around us to stay strong in faith. We do this best by reminding each other of His precious promises of redemption, salvation and sanctification, which then do their work of restoring a grateful and faithful countenance."
angela h = "We are told here to recognize the work of  the elders, pastors, preachers, deacons, teachers, etc. We are to love them and respect the office they hold. We often find ourselves judging others in the church, especially if they are admonishing (reprimanding) us. We are being advised here not to think so highly of ourselves."
Deena E = "Admonition is a part of the edification process. True friends correct one another as well as encourage."
angela h = "I find that being warned or giving warning goes more smoothly if much prayer is made beforehand. It is also very helpful if scripture is shared to back up the warning. We are to help hold up our weaker brethren and build them up. We should remember where God has brought us from, and not be so hard on new converts. None of us are perfect! If we were, we would already be with the Lord. Any conflict with our fellow believers should be handled with the goal of helping them grow closer to the Lord, not to tear them down."
Cary W = "This is our daily work: to warn unruly and disruptive individuals, to comfort those of weakness in mind or body, and to demonstrate the Lords great patience and mercy toward all people we encounter."
Cary W = "Here, again, we get the down to earth practical wisdom of how to apply ourselves practically in living out our faith with one another: admonish the unruley, encourage those whose hearts are weak, and being patient with everyone. With just those three aims, each one of us could change the lives and world around us."

angela h = "See Matthew 5:38-48 When we are wronged we cannot let our emotions get the better of us, whether the offender be a believer or not."
angela h = "Simple and profound at the same time. We have eternal life with our Savior waiting, what's not to be happy about!"
Cary W = "It is God's will for our joy to be full, but to receive this in our daily walk, we must first make the conscious habit of rejoicing an giving God thanks in every little and big thing, to pray without ever stopping.  As we do, we actually open ourselves up more and more to the abundant joy of the Holy Spirit."
angela h = "Replace the "real-time self-talk" that goes on in our heads all the day long (we all do it) with conversation with the Father. I guarantee you will begin to make better decisions in your life and be kinder to others. This takes some intent and effort. However, it is well worth it. I challenge everyone to try it."
angela h = "Even though we cannot loose our salvation, we should never take it for granted. It cost Jesus His life!"
Deena E = "Imagine how different the world would look if everyone continuously gave thanks for EVERYTHING. "

WHITE WOLF = "WELL GIVING THANKS IS SO EAST WHEN LIFE IS BEING FAIR AND ALL OUR NEEDS ARE MET, HOWEVER  WHEN THE FIRES FROM HELL COMES UP THROUGH YOUR FLOOR FOR NO REASON THAT YOU CAN REMEMBER, GIVING THANKS WHILE ON FIRE SEEMS A BIT OUT OF ORDER. I HAVE NO PROBLEM ACCEPTING RESPONSIBILITY FOR ALL THE GOOD THINGS [LOL] I FEEL I SHOULD BE REWARDED FOR ..... BUT WHEN THE WHEEL COMES AND STARTS CRUSHING BONES AND I FEEL UNDESERVING OF THE PAIN ......GIVING THANKS BECOMES A  TASKS THAT ONLY A GOD WOULD BE CAPABLE OF. MY BROTHER SHOT HIMSELF AFTER DOING TWO TERMS IN VIETNAM MY MOTHER DRANK HEAVILY WHILE PREGNANT WITH ME HOPING TO HAVE A MISCARRIAGE. BECAUSE SHE HAD TWO IN DIAPERS ALREADY. I DO MY BEST BUT SOMETIMES IT FEELS WRONG. KNOW WHAT  I  MEAN., "
Yaakov ben Chaim Tzvi = "Each of us struggles in life, some with marriage, family, job, etc. but I truly believe that God gives us these challenges so that we can learn from them and become better people. Diamonds are formed deep in the earth at high temperatures and pressures and take millions of years to form out of plain and dirty minerals. Our challenges are given by God to bring out the diamonds within each of us. I always remember how our nation came together during the tragedy of 9/11. The country was "obsessed" with performing acts of kindness to our fellow man and during the most devastating event in our nations history, our country had risen to its highest point of national unity and love. I believe this is why we are to give thanks to God for all things because the challenges He gives us are for our growth and ultimate benefit. It's hard to do and I myself fall at times but I believe that this is the truth."

angela h = "Ignoring the Holy Spirit grieves Him. See Ephesians 4:30. Repeatedly doing so quenches or puts Him out as He is often thought of as the fire of God burning within us."
Deena E = "John the Baptist spoke of the baptism of the Holy Spirit and fire in Matthew 3:11. What did Paul mean when he told the Thessalonians to "Quench not the Spirit?"The Holy Spirit at work within every born again believer sets a fire inside. I think Paul was saying to keep that fire--divine passion--fueled."
angela h = "Don't hate preaching and teaching. We don't know it all and need to learn all we can about Godly living."
Deena E = "The Thessalonians were said to have many questions about the prophesies concerning the end times. I imagine this being a great source of confusion as it still has so many people perplexed today."
angela h = "Test all things against scripture. Scripture is a wonderful measure to compare things, whether they are good or evil. Hold on to only those which are good."
angela h = "This is difficult, but necessary. We must remember we are representatives of Christ. We do not want to dishonor Him in any way!"
angela h = "Paul prays for the Thessalonians that God will make them holy in spirit, soul, and body (the triune man made in the image of the triune God) See Genesis chapter 1:26."
Cary W = "After encouraging us to pray without ceasing, Paul then prays one powerful prayer for them:  that God Himself would sanctify ad preserve our entire being, spirit, soul and body blameless ad spotless until Christ's return."
Cary W = "We know God is filling our hearts when this attitude prevails toward one another, that we are so beloved our response to each other is of such great and holy affection."
Sara Di Diego = "This indicates that this letter was written for the elders to read to the congregation.  In addition, an holy kiss meant "a kiss of charity", which was the way Christians greeted each other at this time.  During the time of early Christianity, the congregation would kiss each other during holy communion.  Men kissed men, women kissed women.Work Cited:http://www.biblestudytools.com/commentaries/jamieson-fausset-brown/1-thessalonians/1-thessalonians-5.html"
angela h = "Paul meant this letter to be read to all believers everywhere. "
Sara Di Diego = ""Amen" would be the words from the church after the elders would read this letter.  Some older versions omit the "amen" as it was not written by Paul.Work Cited:http://www.biblestudytools.com/commentaries/jamieson-fausset-brown/1-thessalonians/1-thessalonians-5.html"
