Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. 4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: 5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. 6 If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained. 7 But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. 8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come. 9 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation. 10 For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe. 11 These things command and teach. 12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. 13 Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. 14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. 15 Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. 16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

angela h = "Paul is saying that The Spirit of God is clear...He tells that before the Second Coming there will be some who give in to ungodly doctrines and practices.  See second Timothy chapter 3. Paul advises Timothy to not have anything to do with these people. They will appear religious, but will be lacking the most important thing....they are not born again. So, they are really practicing a religion to Satan. See Matthew 12:30."
Sara Di Diego = "Some examples of the Spirits (or prophets chosen by God) "giving heed to seducing spirits" are in 1 Timothy 1:4 and Titus 1:14."
angela h = "They have been given over to a reprobate mind. Meaning they are willfully and intentionally serving Satan. They know they are fighting against God and do not want to change, so God no longer sends His Holy Spirit to convict them of their wrong. See Romans 1-21-32"
angela h = "These false prophets will mislead people, telling them God doesn't want them to marry or eat certain foods."
angela h = "Paul explains that these "forbidden meats" have been made by God for us. And as long as we are truly grateful, The Father will bless. See Matthew 15:10-11"
Cary W = "This is an important word today when so many foods are being discounted and even avoided... wheat, dairy, meat, etc. and we are told we should eat only organic, and only pure seed.Jesus said according to your faith, be it done unto to, and it is not what goes in the mouth that poisons, but the words and belief we state.  So we are encouraged that if it exists, we can be sure God knows about it and unless His Spirit warns us, we should just receive all things as from Him, therefore good, and then use our powerful faith and words to bless that food."
Sara Di Diego = "In the original transcripts, this verse was "For it is sanctified by the word of God and intercessory prayer", which refers to a prayer on behalf of a creature or food.  An example of this prayer would be "Blessed art thou, O Lord, who feedest me from my youth, who givest food to all flesh: Fill our hearts with joy and gladness, that we, having all sufficiency, may abound unto every good work in Christ Jesus our Lord, through whom glory, honour, and might, be to thee for ever. Amen." (From 1 Kings 17:1)."
angela h = "Paul reminds Timothy that as a pastor it is his job to remind the congregation of good doctrines (the one's that truly follow Christ). If they know what the good sound doctrine/teaching  looks like, they can spot a phony doctrine/teaching right away."
angela h = "Not only should we not teach old wives tales, we should admonish those who try to bring these things into the congregation, weather intentional or not. It is difficult  to correct a brother or sister, but it is necessary at times. It is important that we all have unity in what we believe. It is also imperative that we not wait until some unscriptural doctrine has been saturated into part of the congregation to deal with it. See what Jesus tell the Churches of Pergamos and Thyatira in Revelation 2:12-23."
angela h = "Paul isn't saying that we shouldn't take care of ourselves or be mindful of our physical health; he is simply telling us that our spiritual health is much, much more important. Not only is it more important, it is eternal."
angela h = "Paul is reminding young Timothy that they are working together. And as a result of their faith in Jesus, they will suffer some. He reminds Timothy that Jesus died for all, not just the one's who are already saved. See Second Corinthians 5:15."
angela h = "Paul is charging Timothy to teach the gospel-that Christ died for all. He also tells him not to let anyone tell him he isn't fit to be a pastor/preacher because he is young and encourages Timothy to set an example for others in his daily life.I like to recite verse 12 when children in the church are feeling discouraged. It helps them to know that God uses young people too.  "
angela h = "Paul is leaving Timothy in charge. He tells him to study scripture, build up the church/congregation, and to teach the principles of God.It is clear here that Paul plans to return at some point."
angela h = "None of us should neglect the gift/talent/job that God has given us.We are all created for a purpose. That is why we are all different. We don't all have the exact same purpose. God has a general will for us all (to praise Him and to evangelize) but He also has a specific plan for each individual. Paul encourages Timothy to think about and apply his gift to his life always. I would imagine that his gift was being a pastor, which really is a combination of many gifts. "
Cary W = "Each one of us called and chosen by God were given unique and special gifts and services to offer His body; our ministry.  Each of us has one (or several), and as we closely watch our heart, our doctrine or beliefs, we will also remain unhindered in bringing for the Gifts God has given us to extend and share."
angela h = "Paul advises Timothy to keep himself in check, which can only be done with prayer, meditation, and scripture reading; as Paul has stated in previous verses in this chapter. Paul ends with the whole purpose of it all....to help lead souls to Jesus."
