For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. 2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. 3 And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts. 4 Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments. 5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: 6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

Cary W = "When His Spirit alights upon our countenance, our bodies are charged with health and vibrancy of life, and our minds are made clean, clear and ready to serve in love and devotion."
Sarah R = ""God’s desire has always been to provide righteousness to those who trust Him (e.g.,Genesis 15:6). On some occasions, God’s people were said to be “clothed in righteousness” (Job 29:14;Psalm 132:9;Isaiah 61:10), and here inMalachi 4:2God’s people will see the Sun of Righteousness Himself rising over the world. It’s a picture of the futuremillennial reignof Jesus Christ. The darkness of the Antichrist’s reign will vanish, and the light of God will take its place. It’s a new day dawning; God’s people will revel in their freedom like gamboling calves leaping from their stalls (Isaiah 65:17-25;Hosea 14:4-7;Amos 9:13-15;Zephaniah 3:19-20)."Read more:http://www.gotquestions.org/sun-of-righteousness.html#ixzz3QpRVMse6"
Yaakov ben Chaim Tzvi = "Malachi is the final book of the Hebrew prophets and according to Judaism was the bridge between the sunset of the prophets and the dawn of the Sanhedrin where the sages took over the guardianship of the scriptures. This is the "burden" that Malachi speaks about in the opening verses as he was to convey the final message to the Jewish people. How fitting that Malachi's last words to Israel were to "remember [and follow] the law of Moses" as all true prophets of Israel came to encourage the Israelites to keep the Mosaic covenant, not to abolish it."
Sarah R = "Jesus said (Matthew 11:14) that John the Baptist fulfilled this prophecy by coming before Him and preparing the way."
Yaakov ben Chaim Tzvi = "This does not say "coming in the spirit of Elijah" but the actual Prophet Elijah himself will return as he never died -  "suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind". John the Baptist himself admitted he was not Elijah the prophet - John 1:21 - They asked John, "Then who are you? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?" He answered, "No."As such, this prophecy was not fulfilled by John the Baptist according to his own words."
Yaakov ben Chaim Tzvi = "Malachi clearly explained that when the great and dreadful day arrives, he would send the messenger Elijah to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers. Since this has not happened yet we can clearly see that "the Messiah" has not yet arrived."
Sarah R = "The angel's prophecy regarding John the Baptist as recorded in Luke 1:16-17, "16 He will bring back many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God. 17 And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous—to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.""
