And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these sayings, he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan; 2 And great multitudes followed him; and he healed them there. 3 The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? 4 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, 5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? 6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. 7 They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away? 8 He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. 9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery. 10 His disciples say unto him, If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good to marry. 11 But he said unto them, All men cannot receive this saying, save they to whom it is given. 12 For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it. 13 Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them. 14 But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. 15 And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence. 16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? 17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. 18 He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, 19 Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 20 The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? 21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. 22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions. 23 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. 24 And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. 25 When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved? 26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible. 27 Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore? 28 And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29 And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life. 30 But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.

Sara Di Diego = "This was the last trip Jesus took prior to his crucifixion, and thus took place a little prior to passover.Work Cited:http://www.godvine.com/bible/matthew/19-1"
angela h = "We read over and over in the gospels how multitudes followed Jesus.People had a hunger then just as we do now. We need to follow after and worship something. We have an emptiness that needs to be filled. Sadly, most of us will try everything else before we call out to Jesus. Only He can fill the void."He healed them there" ---He will heal us if we let Him.  "
angela h = "It is important to remember that the Pharisees were 'out to get'  Jesus since the beginning of His ministry. See Luke 4. They didn't want to give up their prominence and make way for the Messiah, so they were always following with the crowds trying to trick Jesus into saying something against the laws and/or traditions of the Jews."
angela h = "Jesus is referring them back to Genesis 1:27 and 5:2. God never intended for us to get divorced."
angela h = "The Pharisees were referring to Deuteronomy 24:1. "
angela h = "Jesus came to fulfill the law See Matthew 5:17-20. He allows for divorce only for adultery, but He doesn't command divorce in such cases. God takes marriage very seriously. He made the institution of marriage before He even formed the church. When we are married, we are making promises to God first, then our spouse."
angela h = "Keep in mind this is the disciples speaking here not the Pharisees. "Well if we can't divorce for any old reason, then we shouldn't get married at all." As if Jesus would tell you to do something that couldn't be done. Back in 16:13-20 we read how the disciples knew that Jesus is the Messiah. Yet, they still question Him."
angela h = "Jesus is telling them it's okay if they don't get it. Marriage isn't for everyone. Some people are born not to marry, some are maimed so they wont marry, some choose to serve God fully, rather than marry.Whichever one is for us individually, that is what we will understand. If we are for marriage, we will be able to keep the command Jesus gives. That doesn't mean it is easy, just that it is possible. See Philippians 4:13. "
angela h = "I can see these men trying to shew away the mothers with their children. This is a strong verse. Women and children were more or less property in this culture, but Jesus treats them like first class citizens."
Cary W = "Children are really precious to God and angels alike, for they have not yet learned the laws of man and are therefore still close in heart to the Creator.Once we really see they have so much more to teach us than we do them, then we can really begin to learn life's best lessons about play, love, innocence, and fascination with all that is here."
angela h = "There is a more detailed account of this in Mark 10:13-16. Children don't come with all the baggage and doubts that we do. Their faith is much stronger."
angela h = "He blessed them as Mark says.  After praying over the children, He left."
angela h = "Notice this young man is asking what he can do to get to heaven. Ephesians 2:8-9 tells us that we can't work our way into heaven. "
angela h = "Jesus is asking if he recognizes Him as the Son of God or just a teacher. He tells him to keep the law."
angela h = "He actually has the nerve to ask Jesus which commandment he should keep. "
angela h = "Take note here that each commandment mentioned here has to do with the way we treat other people. There is no mention here of the commandments concerning how we treat God."
Cary W = "We must see that God gave us our parents as He has given us to them, and to honor our parents is natural if we are honoring their Creator."
angela h = "This is boastful of the young man. He brags that he is a good man. But is that going to get him into heaven?Remember in the last 2 verses it dealt with how he treats people, but not how he treats God. Jesus being God could see right into this guy's heart. He knew his motives."
Cary W = "Oh if we could only glimpse or taste even a fraction of His glory, wisdom, light and inner treasures of heavenly gifts, we would not cling to a single thing in this world...yeah, we would gladly lay down even our earthly life to behold Him and His marvelous kingdom. In His Presence we are then perfected before him and then all the things He desires us to do and be flow as naturally and easily as the grace and mercy which He daily pours out upon all flesh!"
angela h = "Get rid of everything you love more than God and follow Jesus! Now Jesus gets to the core of the matter. The young man loved his worldly goods more than God, breaking the first commandment. DO NOT WORSHIP OTHER GODS. He had made his wealth a god."
angela h = "Jesus says hardly; not never. Rich men can go to heaven. They must first realize their wealth already belongs to God and He can give and take as He sees fit. They need to trust God and not wealth. Money comes and goes.  See Philippians 4:12. God is forever! See Hebrews 13:8."
angela h = "I still can't get over how the disciples continue to question Jesus. They have seen His miracles. Three of them have seen the Transfiguration (ch17). But they still don't seem to get it.  "
angela h = "God can make the hearts of men right with Him if they allow Him to.See again Philippians 4:13.God is in the miracle business! "

Deena E = "I really understand Peter's perspective.  They all completely left their occupations (fishermen) and lives behind to basically go on tour (ministry) with Jesus. However, after being a first hand witness to the miracles and power and total life change, why even desire to go back to the ordinary?"
angela h = "Before we judge Peter consider...he did leave his family, job, home, all possessions. He became homeless to follow Jesus (Who was also homeless) See Matthew 8:20. "
angela h = "Jesus doesn't give Peter a hard time for asking about his reward. He simply tells him what it is.....a seat of honor with Jesus."
angela h = " Job only got back double, but for those who fully serve Jesus, they get back 100 times what they give. And eternal life to boot. I call that a good return on your investment."
Cary W = "Some call this the great reversal, for according to Christ, the least shall be the greatest in His Kingdom.  That is why even Paul said he counts all his degrees, accomplishments and possessions as mere rubbish, that he may lay hold of only Christ. When we feel lowly, unworthy or even worthless before Him, we are encouraged that He see's only the greatest in us.  I will glory in Christ therefore and in the cross by which I am sanctified and redeemed and filled with His Spirit!"
angela h = "Jesus will explain in the next chapter. We shouldn't be upset when we feel Jesus is being too good to someone who doesn't deserve it. We don't deserve the goodness of God either. see Isaiah 64:6.If we begin to let this grudge set up in our hearts, then we are not right with God. God does not like a bad attitude in His servants. See Ephesians 6:5-8."
