1 John Alan Shope = "Freud was obviously a very perceptive and brilliant man. He raised honest and fruitful questions. I think those of us who are religious need critics like Freud, Voltaire, Hume, and Dawkins to keep us honest, alive and relevant. A potential problem with conservative religion is it's focus on the past and it's resistance to progress. It too often becomes defensive rather than open to new truths, which then can lead to staleness and even violence."
