You Need to Eat Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ ” -Matthew 4:4 Today’s Word: God’s word is not like any other written word. The Bible was recorded by men under the power of the Holy Spirit. That means that there is Spirit-life force and presence in His word; it’s incarnational. Reading God’s word is an encounter with God, an actual experience with His presence. Even if you don’t feel it, it’s still happening. For instance, when you take a vitamin pill, once you swallow it, you might not instantly see its impact, but it is happening. You eat food everyday unless you’re fasting or you’re too sick. God’s word is literally like food, imparting strength and growth through the value that it gives to us. Let’s be sure to “feed our spirit” every day through reading or listening to the scriptures. You can find free reading programs on the web (check out www.biblegateway.com). I will leave you with some scriptures that will inspire and challenge you to dive in to the word, in order to receive life and sustenance. Scripture: “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” -Psalm 119:11 “May your unfailing love come to me, LORD, your salvation, according to your promise; then I can answer anyone who taunts me, for I trust in your word. Never take your word of truth from my mouth, for I have put my hope in your laws. I will always obey your law, forever and ever. I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts.” -Psalm 119:41-45 Jesus said, “Sanctify them by the truth, your word is truth.” -John 17:17 “May my cry come before you, Oh Lord; give me understanding according to your word.” -Pslam 119:169 “The unfolding of your words give light, it gives understanding to the simple.” -Psalm 119:130 “As the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth, it will not return to me empty but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” -Isaiah 55:10-11
