An interesting story today by Collum Lynch about an audit into the U.S. Agency for International Development under Bush administration, which funded the rebuilding of Iraqi mosques and taught biblical lessons promoting sexual abstinence in Africa.
Such activities could contradict a prohibition on the use of federal funds to support “inherently religious activities.”
Here’s an interesting excerpt:
As part of one faith-based abstinence program in Africa, officials conducted a session urging youth to memorize and recite Psalm 119:9, which says, “How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word.” Participants were then instructed to recite the passage’s “key concept”: “God has a plan for sex and this plan will help you and protect you from harm.”
