Mitt Romney, quoting Dr. King: ‘Without dependence on God’ effective social change isn’t possible

Every good cause on this earth relies in the end on a plan bigger than ours. “Without dependence on God,” as Dr. King said, “our efforts turn to ashes and our sunrises into darkest night. Unless his spirit pervades our lives, we find only what G. K. Chesterton called ‘cures that don’t cure, blessings that don’t bless, and solutions that don’t solve.’” Of all that you bring to the work of today’s civil rights cause, no advantage counts for more than this abiding confidence in the name above every name. Against cruelty, arrogance, and all the foolishness of man, this spirit has carried the NAACP to many victories. More still are up ahead, and with each one we will be a better nation.

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney on how dependence on God is a crucial part of effective social change. Romney spoke to members of the civil rights organization Wednesday at their annual convention.

I’d really love to hear him quote his spiritual; leader, L Ron Hubbard . . . but he seems to be too shy to do so – perhaps we should help him:

“I’d like to start a religion. That’s where the money is.” – L. Ron Hubbard to Lloyd Eshbach, in 1949; quoted by Eshbach in OVER MY SHOULDER: REFLECTIONS ON A SCIENCE FICTION ERA, Donald M. Grant Publisher. 1983

“Scientology is the only specific (cure) for radiation (atomic bomb) burns.” – L. Ron Hubbard, ALL ABOUT RADIATION, p. 109

“Let’s sell these people a piece of blue sky.” – L. Ron Hubbard to an associate in 1950, soon after the opening of the Hubbard Dianetic Research Foundation. (via Jon Atack, A PIECE OF BLUE SKY: SCIENTOLOGY, DIANETICS AND L. RON HUBBARD EXPOSED, Lyle Stuart/Carol Publishing Group. 1990)

“A Venezuelan dictator once decided to stop leprosy. He saw that most lepers in his country were also beggars. By the simple expedient of collecting and destroying all the beggars in Venezuela an end was put to leprosy in that country.” – L. Ron Hubbard, SCIENCE OF SURVIVAL, p. 171

Why so shy about what you believe in Mitt?

His vacuous pandering to minorities is nauseating

How about quoting from MLK’s Riverside Baptish Church speech on Vietnam:

“The greatest purveyor of violence in the world, my own government; and I cannot remain silent.”

The truth would have been better Mitt.

‘God and I made millions at Bain Capital by offshoring AND without paying taxes…….and you can do it to if I’m elected president.’

Now that would have had some traction.

Guess Mitt’s Mormon Bible doesn’t have the Sermon on the Mount in it … or the Original Ten Commandments …. thinking of the one about Lies.

Romney released a commercial with footage in which Obama stated, “If we keep talking about the economy, we’re going to lose.”

As it happens, Obama was describing how the McCain campaign assessed McCain’s situation during the 2008 general election, and the clip was from back then.

The Romney TV spot dispensed with all that pesky context.

When this flagrant misdirection was pointed out, the Romney campaign’s reaction was unapologetic pride.

MItt and his God: comfortable with making sure 30,000,000 Americans don’t have access to affordable health care … ?

MItt? Yes! …. God? Don’t think so!

when a candidate uses god as his/her associate one should be concerned since it suggests an individual who has no true self confidence – especially the god that said, go kill them all and I’ll give you a promised land.

If Mitt Romney wants GOD to be sovereign he should move to England where they believe in that. My forefathers fought King George to establish a sovereign people. Americans can and have decided matters of law for themselves. It is outside the scope of our good offices to endeavour to perpetrate a crime against humanity in the name of GOD. Hitler did the same.
