> Dear Heavenly Father, > > As we remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy every day, we think of how they have followed in the footsteps of your son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. Please hold our servicemen and women in your strong arms. Cover them with your sheltering grace and your presence as they stand in the gap for our protection. > > We also remember the families of our troops. We ask for your unique blessings to fill their homes, and we pray your peace, provision, and strength will fill their lives. > > May the members of our armed forces be supplied with courage to face each day and may they trust in the Lord's mighty power to accomplish each task. Let our military brothers and sisters feel our love and support. > > In the name of Jesus. Amen. From: http://christianity.about.com/od/prayersverses/qt/memorialdaypray.htm

Sarah R = "Jesus taught us to address God as our Father. This brings Him from high, unreachable and transcendent to present, near and personal. God is Almighty and Greater than we can imagine - but He makes Himself available to us because of His great love."
Ben N = "The ultimate sacrifice is to give one's life for the good of others. On Memorial Day, we remember the soldiers who died in combat, who gave their lives fighting for the ideals of our country: freedom, democracy, human rights."
Ben N = "While our soldiers are deployed overseas, facing the dangers of combat, their families live every day with anxiety, uncertainty, and the fear that their loved one may not come home alive. We pray that the loving Presence of God fill their hearts and their homes, and give them comfort and peace of mind."
Sarah R = "The expression, "There are no atheists in fox holes," comes from war times, where people under great stress and hardship will call out to a God they didn't even know they believed in. God hears such prayers - He hears all prayers - and draws near to those who honestly seek Him."
Sarah R = "I would add to this prayer, "God, be with those who have returned home, who are struggling to readjust to life and to deal with the memories that haunt their dreams. Bring them Your peace, Your healing, and surround them with people who will understand and support them. We praise You, in Jesus' name, Amen.""
