Verse 16 calls attention to the holiday’s name when it says “Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil.” In Greece Clean Monday is even a public holiday called Kathara Deftera which is Greek for Clean Monday. There are many outdoor celebrations for this holiday all over the country involving seafood and flying kites.
