1 Sahil Badruddin = ""Irshad Manji is a journalist and the best-selling author of "The Trouble with Islam Today: A Muslim's Call for Reform in her Faith." Her book aims to show Muslims how they can rediscover "Ijtihad," Islam's lost tradition of independent thinking. In addition to her book, Ms. Manji has created a plan of reforms that she calls "Project Ijtihad." Her vision is to replace the jihadists, those who promote and conduct holy war, with Ijtihadists. According to Ms. Manji, Project Ijtihad is a charitable initiative designed to promote critical thinking, debate and dissent among Muslims, as a way to update Islam to the 21st Century.Ms. Manji believes her plan supports "a positive vision of Islam that embraces diversity of choices, expression and spirituality. To achieve this, Project Ijtihad will build the world's most inclusive network of reform-minded Muslims and non-Muslim allies".Ms. Manji is also the producer and host of the recently released documentary "Faith Without Fear," which explores the concept of Ijtihad by tracing the history of Islam through the ages.Irshad Manji recently sat down with Julie Vahdati, host of "A Woman's World", to talk about her book, her film, Project Ijtihad and the importance of women in their quest for rediscovering Islam.""
